Fault coordination control for converter-interfaced sources compatible with differential protection during asymmetrical faults

Converter-interfaced renewable energy sources (CIRESs) may have a different fault current angle with synchronous generators (SGs), so the large difference on both sides will cause low sensitivity or failure for traditional proportional braking differential protection. So as to cope this issue, new control strategy is put forward. By analyzing phasor diagram during asymmetric faults, reasonable phase of CIRES determined reduce below 60°, and corresponding references controller are calculated. In way, proposed method can make CIRESs compatible protection, it economical since protection device not necessary be updated. addition, also shows good performance points, high-resistance faults power factors before fault. Moreover, typical ride through (FRT) conditions including restriction reactive support still being satisfied while structure does require altered. Simulation results in PSCAD validate approach used scenarios.
